What the classifiers highlight
Tucked between an art gallery and an antique shop in Gion, this nine-suite hotel is a Tadao Ando project, timber outside like a traditional ryokan, tatami and shoji within. MICHELIN awards Two Keys for what it calls a masterclass in liveable design. Suites carry cypress soaking tubs; the restaurant runs a menu by Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
