Completed in 1873 as Congressman John Winthrop Chanler's summer house, the mansion is the only hotel directly on Newport's 3.5-mile Cliff Walk. Rooms and villas run through styles from Tudor to Georgian, nearly all with a Jacuzzi and fireplace; Ocean Villas add private saunas and water views. MICHELIN lists it among its Key hotels, and Forbes rates it Five Star.
