What the classifiers highlight

Founded in 1484, this twelve-room ryokan in Izu has run for over five centuries, tatami mats and shoji screens kept nearly bare of furniture. A Noh stage rises over a reflecting pond, still used for seasonal Noh, Kyogen comedy and Shinnai storytelling. MICHELIN raised it from Two Keys to Three, citing hot-spring baths fed by centuries-old waters.
